As noted before, Drew McIntyre was involved in a backstage incident following his elimination from the Men’s Royal Rumble match at Saturday’s WWE Royal Rumble event. McIntyre stormed out of the venue over being furious over his issues with another performer in the match who was claimed to only care at trying to put himself over and not the match nor stories being told in it.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that WWE officials original plans for McIntyre’s elimination was for it to spark a storyline between him and Damien Priest for WrestleMania 41 season and be different than what had actually happened.
Johnson reported that McIntyre was upset with LA Knight over him backing up into himself, Priest, and Jey Uso as they headed towards the ropes for his elimination spot. Those spoken to reportedly stated that McIntyre may have been upset that Knight’s errant movement killed the drama and momentum of the planned elimination spot and taking what was meant to be a big moment and turning it into something that happened in a clunky manner instead. This reportedly caused the belief that the originally planned elimination moment and spark for the McIntyre vs. Priest storyline to be “lost.”
One source spoken to within WWE reportedly downplayed the situation stated that the company can always tweak things in post-production but also acknowledged McIntyre’s anger over the situation.
