As noted before, New Japan Pro Wrestling talent Jeff Cobb teased in a backstage interview at a Road to the New Beginning 2025 event this past February about him potentially leaving for a new company. WWE recently has shown strong interest in signing Cobb to a potential contract with their company.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources confirmed Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp’s report about WWE’s interest in signing Cobb.
Meltzer reported that Cobb’s contract with NJPW had expired at the end of this past January but he is still working in Japan for NJPW’s New Japan Cup tournament and tour.
Meltzer also reported that while Cobb has been living for some time in Fukuoka, Japan, him being 42 years made him sensed that this was perhaps his last chance to make the kind of money that WWE and AEW currently pays.
Cobb reportedly had turned down AEW several years ago because he was happy in NJPW and happy enough to move to Japan.
In regards to WWE, those spoken to reportedly stated that there have been talks between WWE officials and Cobb but there has been no confirmation of a deal being signed yet.
Cobb is currently booked to work at NJPW’s Windy City Riot 2025 event on April 11th in Chicago, Illinois.
