Tony Khan Comments on Jon Moxley’s Spiked Bat Spot Being a Good Viral Moment for AEW

As noted before, the March 19th episode of AEW Dynamite in Omaha, Nebraska featured Jon Moxley defeating Cope in a Street Fight match to retain the AEW World Championship. This match was notable for a spot involving Cope suplexing Moxley onto a spiked bat and some of the spikes being stuck on Moxley’s back requiring the assistance of Wheeler Yuta and the referee to pull it out.

A recent episode of the Way of the Blade podcast featured AEW CEO Tony Khan as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts about his reasons why the Moxley’s spiked bat spot was a positive and not a negative viral moment for AEW.

“When Mox had the spike bat in his back, that was a great wrestling moment. It was memorable, it helped drive box office for us, it was highest rated episode of the year. It went viral. It’s one of the most watched videos of the year. It’s probably the most watched video of the year in AEW. It’s a fantastic moment. It made new fans and created interest. It was on TMZ. There are people who weren’t watching AEW that saw it. It brought outside fans in and created casual interest.”
