More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for May 21st
The May 21st episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership, a small decline in key demographic rankings, and a slight decline in key demographic ratings.
AEW drew 575,000 viewers and a 0.15 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was #13 place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines this week was due to a combination of the stiff sports competition from the 2025 NBA and NHL Playoffs and the large decline from their older male key demographic viewership group, which was down 33.9% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Finals game between the Pacers and Knicks drew the highest viewership for an ECF Game 1 since 2018. This reportedly offset the gains from their younger male key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were up 15% and 20.5% respectively compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that the viewership on MAX for the show is currently not known. Meltzer also reported that AEW’s lead-in programming Big Bang Theory drew 738,000 viewers and a 0.15 rating.
In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2025 NBA Playoffs Game 1 of Indiana Pacers vs. New York Knicks drew 5,726,000 viewers on TNT and 824,000 viewers on truTV, the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Game 1 of Edmonton Oilers vs. Dallas Stars drew 1,460,000 viewers on ESPN, the MLB games of New York Mets vs. Boston and Atlanta vs. Washington drew 283,000 viewers on MLB Network, Survivor drew 4,559,000 viewers on CBS, Dr. Pimple Popper drew 375,000 viewers on TLC, Expedition Files drew 688,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, and Summer House drew 425,000 viewers on BRAVO.

AEW’s Males 18-34 had 46,000 viewers (up 15%), Females 18-34 had 23,000 viewers (down 28.1%), Males 35-49 had 78,000 viewers (down 33.9%), and Females 35-49 had 47,000 viewers (up 20.5%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s males/female viewership split was 63.9% in favor of males
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 19.4% in overall viewership and down 39.2% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 key demographic viewership was down 45.2% compared to the same week last year. Meltzer also reported that one main reason for the large declines is due to the unknown key demographic viewership migration on MAX compared to last year’s show.
