As noted before, AAA talent Niño Hamburguesa was released from WWE and Lucha Libre AAA this past week following a fan incident that turned physical at an indie event earlier this month in Mexico.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that while Hamburguesa did not appear to hurt the person at all, the incident did get a lot of media traction and WWE officials made the decision to fire him after they saw video of it.
Meltzer reported that his sources stated that AAA talent were told about Hamburguesa’s firing on March 6th and were warned by officials to never touch a fan. Meltzer reported that the general reaction backstage over the news was one of unhappiness due to Hamburguesa was a very popular person in AAA’s locker room.
Meltzer also reported that while there have been other AAA talents that have done similar things at other shows, those incidents usually were based on something far more serious such as a fan attacking or being threatening towards a wrestler and not just somebody laughing at a wrestler for slipping. Meltzer reported that since those incidents never went public like the way Hamburguesa’s incident did, nothing ever transposed from those incidents.
Meltzer also reported that AAA talent who were unhappy had wished the outcome would have been different but they understood that while it would have been just considered as a “shit happens” category under the old AAA ownership, this is stuff they can not be doing under WWE’s ownership.
