As noted before, Wardlow has been noticeably absent from AEW over the past year that was later revealed to be due to a knee injury.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that his sources stated that Wardlow had suffered a labrum injury in Spring of 2024. Sapp reported that Wardlow was also involved in a car accident during his time away recovering. Those spoken to reportedly stated that this car accident wasn’t the cause of Wardlow’s injury but did make it worse.
Sapp reported that Wardlow was medically cleared in early of 2025 but the reason for his current abscense is due to him landing a “very appropriate and special” television role earlier this year. Wardlow reportedly had a meeting with AEW CEO Tony Khan and all partied agreed that it wouldn’t serve anyone well to just bring him back briefly and have to take him off again for the television role.
In regards to the current status of Wardlow’s contract with AEW, Sapp reported that Wardlow still has a significant amount of time left on his deal and will not be leaving the company any time soon.
