CM Punk Comments on His Belief Kayfabe Is Not Dead with WWE Unreal,

A recent episode of Sirius XM’s Effective Immediately radio show featured CM Punk and Rhea Ripley as the guests. One of the topics discussed included CM Punk’s thoughts about him not believing that kayfabe in wrestling is dead with WWE’s recently released WWE Unreal docuseries.

“No. You can make a claim it was dead in the 50s and 60s. If you know your wrestling history, in a way, it’s always been dead. The true workers, the real magicians, will always find a way to hook people and make people believe. That’s our job. I don’t care what people see or don’t see on Netflix. I’m the master. I will get you. I will figure it out and I will get you.”

WWE Unreal Director Comments on Docuseries Is “Like Pulling The Curtain Down”

JimmyV3 held a recent interview with WWE Unreal director Chris Weaver. One of the topics discussed included Weaver’s thoughts about how the project was not just “pulling the curtain back” but actually “pulling the curtain down” in WWE and wrestling.

“So, walking into this project, I knew that wrestling historically was pretty tight-lipped and wanted to keep things under wraps for both they want to keep their stories and their reveals secret. Plus, just like you said, the mystery of what they’re doing. I think they’ve accepted that, the world knows this is scripted. It’s episodic television. Maybe we can get even more fans to want to enjoy this if they know a little bit more about the people that make it possible. So very deep dive. People actually said, oh, so we’re going to peek behind the curtain. I’m like, no, this isn’t just a peek behind the curtain. This is like pulling the curtain down. They were very open. They, we said, ‘let us shoot as much as we possibly can.’ and they did that. They were very warm and receiving and they made us feel like part of the group when we go out on the road or when we go into Stanford, their headquarters in Stanford. So yeah, this is going places that no one’s ever really been with cameras. In fact, one of the first events we shot, we were going and shooting some different things, and even like internal people at WWE were like, ‘whoa, you’re going to shoot that?’ and that’s when I knew, we’re onto something here. We got something special.”

Carlito Comments on His “I Gotta Learn Chinese” Comments on Oct. 21, 2024 RAW Show & Feels It Was Not Racist

As noted before, former WWE talent Carlito was involved in a controversial incident during his promo segment on the October 21, 2024 episode of WWE RAW. This controversy revolved around a line he stated to RAW GM Adam Pearce saying “I gotta learn Chinese” after walking in to IYO SKY and Kairi Sane speaking Japanese as they left the room. This quickly lead to online backlash and claims of casual racism against Carlito.

A recent episode of the Refin’ It Up podcast featured Carlito as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Carlito’s thoughts about his controversial incident on WWE RAW and his belief that his comments were not racist.

“The only one was the IYO SKY thing which, I don’t know, people — and that one I just improvised live but, that wasn’t even a racist thing. It was a language thing… I wanted to get on something but they told me not to say anything… It has nothing to do with race. This character is oblivious to things. I was like, ‘Oh man, people are just damn sensitive these days…’ (It was) like a throwaway line.

I didn’t either (Carlito agreed with the co-host that he didn’t view it as a racist comment). All of a sudden, this is racist. What are you talking about? It was like, no, you dumbasses… It could have been somebody talking Italian and I said, oh, I gotta speak French, you know what I mean? That was the joke. But, in the writers’ defense, that one was live. I just threw it out there… and nobody was responsible but me. That was all me, so, I feel bad for the writers…

People told me that. Thankful that I didn’t pass it (the blame). I was like, ‘Bro, I’m not gonna do that.’ I’m not built that way. I’ll just take it on the chin. If it was me, it was me. I don’t wanna get anybody else in trouble.”

Carlito also gave his thoughts about how WWE offered him a Legends contract after his appearance in the 2021 Royal Rumble but he turned it down due to it being a terrible “low-ball” offer and his lawyer telling him to not sign it.

“During that time, they offered me a contract but they low-balled me. I think it was 2015. They low-balled me and then, they didn’t even take a counter-offer. They didn’t even call me for the counter-offer. I said, ‘Alright, then, you can go fornicate yourself.’ ‘Well, alright, okay,’ and then after the (2021 Royal) Rumble, they offered me a Legends contract, and it was just a terrible — I gave it to my lawyer, he goes, ‘Bro, don’t even sign this,’ and it was (Mark) Carrano, and he didn’t even call me. This time was by text. So I was like, ‘Okay, I see how serious this is.’ I was like, ‘Alright, thanks buddy,’ and I kept it professional again. I said, ‘No, thank you. I have to pass’ or whatever.”
