Eddie Kingston on His Injury Abscense from AEW & Advice from Homicide Helped Steer Him Away from Considering Retirement

As noted before, Eddie Kingston has been out of action for AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling since May of 2024 due to a broken leg, torn ACL, and torn meniscus injuries and surgery. Kingston is currently scheduled to make his in-ring return at this Saturday’s AEW All Out 2025 event.

CBS Sports held a recent interview with Eddie Kingston. One of the topics discussed included Kingston’s thoughts about how he had spent a portion of his injury time alone due to his partner was tending to personal matters and had considered retirement from wrestling at one point.

“I went from beating myself up, not knowing if I’d get back in the ring, and trying to be satisfied. I told myself, ‘Well, I reached this goal and I reached that goal.’ I was trying to convince myself that it’s OK to call it.”

Kingston also gave his thoughts about how he did not find any closure during those times.

“I couldn’t. Nothing. Death. Honestly. I tried to find everything. I would lie to myself.”

Kingston also gave his thoughts about Homicide’s recent retirement and how advice from Homicide helped give him the motivation to want to continue his wrestling career.

“He didn’t get to go out his way. So he’d tell me, ‘Go out your way. I know this is not the way you want to go out.’ I want to go out on my shield. I want to go out swinging to the end. People can say whatever they want about Eddie Kingston, but one thing they can’t say is that I wasn’t defiant to the end. That’s what kept me going.”

Kingston also gave his thoughts about how messages of support from fans also helped him to keep going on for his wrestling career.

“And as corny as this sounds, but I need to say it, I’d read messages from fans. I would sit there and wonder why these people even care. I’m just a kid from Yonkers, New York. That’s it. I got to live out my nine-year-old dream and be a pro wrestler.”
