Wednesday’s AEW Fright Night Dynamite 2025 show at the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas featured the announcement of Penelope Ford had recently suffered an injury and would no longer be able to compete in the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship tournament to crown an inaugural champion.
During the show, Excalibur and Bryan Danielson stated on commentary that Ford’s status for the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship tournament was in doubt due to her recently suffering an injury to her arm at this past week’s Collision show. Excalibur also stated that Ford’s status for the upcoming Women’s Blood & Guts match was also in serious doubt.
In a follow-up segment, Tony Schiavone interviewed Ford, who was wearing a sling, and Megan Bayne backstage for some words about Ford’s current injury situation. Ford confirmed that she is injured and revealed that she had suffered a torn UCL. After some words of warning by Ford to the women’s tag division, Bayne responded calling out any woman to step up to replace Ford. This led to Marina Shafir showing up accepting the offer and Jon Moxley showing up afterwards acting all giddy over this new powerhouse team.
An injury has sidelined @thePenelopeFord, but @meganbayne’s run in the #AEW Women’s World Tag Team Title Tournament isn’t over yet. @MarinaShafir seems ready to step into that opening!
