Rumor Killer on WWE Using Non-Compete Clause on Andrade El Idolo to Try to Bring Him Back to Company

As noted before, Andrade El Idolo has been absent from AEW since earlier this month due to issues believed to be due to him being currently under a non-compete clause with WWE following his firing from the company this past September. This non-compete clause is currently believed to be for one year in length due to WWE’s claims that he breached his contract over his firing. Besides AEW, Andrade had also been pulled from several of his recently scheduled indies bookings due to similar issues.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that there is currently a belief within lucha libre circles in Mexico that WWE could be using the one-year non-compete as leverage to persuade Andrade to return to their company. Johnson reported that this was something he was not able to confirm from those within WWE and this belief is only coming from those in Mexico.

Fightful Select reported that their sources within WWE stated that Andrade is not currently factored into any creative plans. It was reported that those spoken to did not elaborate beyond that in regards to Andrade’s current non-compete situation with WWE.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Andrade has been receiving a lot of sympathy within the wrestling industry lately over WWE’s non-compete clause keeping him from being able to make a living in wrestling and other combat-related sports for a full year.
