As noted before, AEW’s WrestleDream 2025 event earlier this month in St. Louis, Missouri was impacted by streaming related issues affecting the show for those who had purchased the event on Comcast and Amazon Prime. These issues were expected to negatively impact AEW’s pay-per-view buys for the event and a cause for the lack in early buys estimates.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW is currently estimated to have generated around 115,000 to 125,000 buys for their WrestleDream 2025 event based on current data and late buys purchases.
Meltzer reported that AEW’s buys revenue for the event is expected to be lower than normal for that amount of buys due to Amazon Prime recently issuing refunds from everyone who ordered it from their platform.
Meltzer also reported that WrestleDream’s current buys estimates would also indicate that AEW would be better off holding their PPV events in the afternoon despite that violates every historical rule of PPV for boxing, pro wrestling, and MMA. The reason reportedly due to AEW’s last three PPVs that had all aired in the afternoon performed better than WrestleDream is estimated to have done in buys.
AEW’s low-end estimate for WrestleDream would be the second lowest for an AEW PPV event this year, only ahead of this past April’s Dynasty 2025 event.
