Tony Khan Comments on His “Dream” AEW Signing
Sportico held a recent interview with AEW CEO Tony Khan at their Invest in Sports: New York event last week in New York City, New York. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts about which sports star or actor from outside the traditional wrestling world he would most like to sign to AEW as a dream signing.
“For me, the best person we had and I would love for him to come back any time, would be Shaq. Shaq’s 1-0, but then he’s been away from AEW. He disappeared out of the ambulance in 2021 and we haven’t seen him since. So I would love to get Shaq back in the ring. He’s gotta be on of the all-time greatest stars ever in basketball, and he’s undefeated in AEW.”
O’Neil previously made an appearance in AEW in March of 2021 and competed in a Mixed Tag Team match with Jade Cargill against Red Velvet & Cody Rhodes.

Andrade El Idolo’s AEW Contract & WWE Non-Compete Update and Andrade Denies Report of Him Walking Out of Nov. 7th Crash Event
As noted before, former WWE talent Andrade El Idolo has been absent from AEW since this past October due to issues over him currently being under a non-compete clause with WWE after his firing from the company this past September. This non-compete clause is currently believed to be for one year in length over WWE’s claims that he breached his contract from his firing. Andrade had also been pulled from several of his indies bookings due to similar issues.
The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported that Andrade was in attendance at this past Friday’s XIV Anniversario event for The Crash Lucha Libre in Tijuana, Mexico. Andrade reportedly was there for a fan meet and greet but did not appear nor wrestle on the show itself. Meltzer stated that a report from Mexican lucha news program Zona Ruda stated that they were told Andrade had left the building being upset about something.
In regards to Andrade’s one year non-compete with WWE, Meltzer reported that this is only for wrestling promotions in the United States.
Andrade responded on Tuesday on Twitter denying reports of him walking out of the show and stated that he was “just looking for some Chinese food” for the reason why he left.

In a recent interview with Yahoo Sports’ Uncrowned, Willow Nightingale gave her thoughts about how she has always been a fan of deathmatch wrestling and being a big fan of Danny Havoc. Nightingale stated “I was a huge deathmatch wrestling fan before I started wrestling. CZW, Tournament of Death, Cage of Death, through there, Big Japan Wrestling … I was a big Danny Havoc fan. So that’s really more so the stuff that I had been watching before I started wrestling. And then when I started doing it, everybody was like, ‘You don’t want to scar your body. Don’t do that.’ Then I finally get to TV and they’re like, ‘Hey, do you want to do the blood-and-guts stuff?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, I want to do the blood-and-guts stuff.’ That’s really where it comes from.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
As noted before, Pro Wrestling Illustrated recently announced that Mercedes Mone took their top spot for this year’s PWI Women’s 250 list. Deonna Purrazzo recently reflected on Twitter about her “surprisingly high” ranking of #99 in this year’s list due to this past year has been challenging for her. Purrazzo stated “This year tested me in ways I never expected. At times, my career felt stalled & stale and I found myself wondering if there was still a place for me in all of this. Being ranked so surprisingly high by @OfficialPWI means the world — not for validation, but because it proves that consistency matters. Showing up, even when it’s hard, counts. Someone once told me, ‘Some years are for growing, and some are for building.’ This was a building year. Next year, I bloom.“
As noted before, Miranda Alize and Nixon Newell (former Tegan Nox in WWE) were involved in a backstage incident at this past Saturday’s AEW Collision show in Houston, Texas. This incident revolved around Alize and Newell’s issues with their booking and time given for their tag team match for the show and walked out in response. Dustin Rhodes recently responded on Twitter about the situation stating “When you get an opportunity to perform on television, you say yes! You do exactly what the company wants/WITH A GREAT ATTITUDE. Otherwise, good luck in ur future endeavors. #KeepSteppin #WorkEthic #Passion #Opportunity.”
In a recent interview with the Marking Out with MVP and Dwayne Swayze podcast, Harley Cameron gave her thoughts about how she had asked for help ahead of her match against Mercedes Mone for the AEW TBS Championship at this past February’s AEW Grand Slam Australia show in her hometown of Brisbane, Australia. Cameron stated “It’s funny I was doing the maths yesterday, because I have a book that I write in, I have a wrestling book, a traditional thing where I write it down. I write everything down.Again, 64 matches in, it’s funny to even do the maths on that, because I just got to wrestle one of the greatest wrestlers of all-time, and I was like holy shit. But again I was like I’m gonna do the best I can to be ready, and I’d go home and train, I’d think of spots and I’d ask for private sessions with my coaches and if you see me at work I’ll be in the ring before the work day begins because I was like ‘I’m getting put in the deep end, so I better do the best of my ability’ because if anything doesn’t go to plan or isn’t perfect, at least I can turn around and say I gave everything to it. I was training as much as I could, I was asking for help, I was doing the additional stuff.” (Transcript h/t: F4WOnline.com)
