As noted before, Naomi and former WWE talent Sasha Banks, also known as Mercedes Mone in AEW, were involved in a backstage incident in May of 2022 over them walking out prior to the start of the May 16, 2022 WWE RAW show. This incident revolved around Naomi and Banks walking out of the show due to backstage creative issues that resulted in both of them being suspended by WWE and being stripped of their Women’s Tag Team Championship at the time.
One of the topics of the recently released second season of the WWE: Unreal docuseries on Netflix featured Naomi and others within WWE addressing the walkout incident from 2022.
Naomi gave her thoughts about her decision to walk out of WWE at the time.
“I’m not gonna go much into detail, ’cause I don’t like talking about it. So in 2022, my tag team partner, Sasha Banks, and I at the time were tag team champions. There was a lot that happened that day at work that led us to.. leave. Like, literally walk out. I needed to stand up for myself, and not as Naomi, but as Trinity, and that was the first time in my life, in my career, not employed and not knowing what to do next and where to go next.”
WWE Hall of Famer and producer Michael Hayes also gave his thoughts about Naomi and Banks’ walkout incident stating that he was shocked by Naomi’s walkout and felt what they did was the wrong thing to do.
“I was very surprised and shocked that Trin decided to get up and walk out. That’s the wrong thing to do. That’s just the wrong thing to do. You work the show, and you work the show not because you don’t want to then. It’s for down the line when things cool off. and you go ‘phew. Glad I really didn’t burn that bridge’.”
WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque also gave his thoughts about the walkout incident stating that he wasn’t involved with WWE’s main roster talent at the time and they never wanted Naomi gone from the company. Levesque also stated that they felt WWE was her home and it was a “big driving force to get her to come back.”
