Leon Slater Comments on His WWE Appearances
A recent episode of the Unseen with Joey Karni podcast featured current TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Slater’s thoughts about his recent appearances in WWE and him just trying to represent himself and TNA Wrestling the best as he can.
“It’s a huge opportunity for me, man. It’s something I take great pride in. Inside the ring, I’m doing my best. I’m showing people what the X-Division style is all about, what Leon Slater is about, but just like inside the ring, I’m doing the outside the ring as well. The way I’m dressed going to the venue, the way I’m talking to people, the way I’m carrying myself, trying to make sure I’m doing everything right, checking all the boxes as far as talent goes so when people say like oh we’re thinking of having a TNA talent on John Cena’s last match, like oh yea Leon of course. I’m just trying to represent myself and my company as best as I can.”
Slater also gave his thoughts about WWE talents making appearances in TNA as part of the working relationship between both companies.
“I think the biggest thing for me, and the biggest thing for our locker room in general … I think we do hold this protective energy sometimes over that locker room and over the kind of energy that we have with us right now where we don’t want anyone coming in and messing it up.
My biggest thing has always been respecting other people’s locker rooms, right? Like we were saying [about] NXT, what would I look like if I turned up in sweatpants and a baggy hoodie and stuff like that, and left trash in their locker room? So for me, the biggest thing is just having that respect for TNA and for what we’ve been doing because we’re in such a special place right now. And I think I speak for the whole locker room where I say we just don’t want anyone to mess that up.
But that being said, of course, we welcome to all comers, whether you’re old, you’re young, you’re middle-aged. And especially in the X Division. The X Division is the hottest division in TNA in my opinion. And I’m always up for new challenges, that’s for sure.”
