Backstage Update on AEW’s Plans for Kenny Omega vs. MJF Match at Dynasty 2026

As noted before, this past Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show featured Kenny Omega defeating Swerve Strickland to become the new #1 Contender for MJF’s AEW World Championship match at AEW’s Dynasty 2026 event on April 12th in Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that AEW officials plans for the Omega vs. MJF match for the AEW World Championship at Dynasty was something that had been in the works for quite a while.

Those spoken to reportedly specifically stated that this match had been planned for “months” to take place at the event.

Kenny Omega Comments on His Praise of Dedication of AEW Roster

The Undisputed held a recent interview with Kenny Omega. One of the topics discussed included Omega’s thoughts about his praise of the dedication of AEW’s roster and his pride in how AEW has helped expose fans to the global wrestling landscape over the past seven years.

“There were a lot of great steps along the way. One that really sticks out is when we reached a point where we had an official partnership with New Japan and CMLL, and we were willing, able, and eager to show the various professional wrestling styles of the world to our American fans an international fans. That was a main goal for me. I wanted people to experience all the different types of professional wrestling.

Very rarely did I feel like we took steps backward. You take pride in your work, so when we did, those were crushing. Not everything works, but wrestling has a circular momentum. So when something didn’t work out, we have the roster to turn it around. That’s the case now more than ever. This is a roster with a dedication to the art and sport of wrestling. That’s why we’ll always be in the conversation of the best professional wrestling company in the world.”
