Chris Jericho Comments on Him Having Between One to Four Years Left in His Wrestling Career

As noted before, Chris Jericho has been absent from AEW since this past April. Jericho’s contract was originally believed to have been set to expire at the end of 2025 before later being discovered to have been frozen due to his current time away from the company.

GamesHub held a recent interview with Jericho. One of the topics discussed included Jericho’s thoughts about the future of his in-ring wrestling career and potential retirement plans.

“What worries me about the guys working today is here I am at 55, 35 years in, with still some career left to go. I don’t know if it’s a year, two years, four years — I’m not sure. But I don’t know how many of the guys working now will have the option to go 35 years. Hopefully all of them. But you can already see what serious injuries do — a bad neck surgery changes everything. The longevity may be harder to sustain when there’s so much emphasis on the physical at the expense of charisma and character. I remember the first time I ever got hurt. I thought I was invincible. I was in León, Mexico, did a dive over the top rope, and the guy who was supposed to catch me — a guy called Masaka — he just stepped aside. I landed on old-school bolted-down arena chairs. I messed up my arm and I thought, oh, I could actually get hurt doing this. And if a guy doesn’t want to catch you, that’s even worse. After that I started getting smart about which moves were worth the risk. The guys who figure that out early are the ones who get the longevity.”

Colt Cabana Comments on His Current Backstage Roles in AEW

A recent episode of the Talk’N Shop podcast featured AEW talent and producer Colt Cabana as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Cabana’s thoughts about his current backstage roles in AEW and him being under four different contracts.

“I’m a producer. I work with the merch team. I work with the VIP team and also I’m a wrestler, but I haven’t been getting the call to wrestle …

I’m trying to make myself irreplaceable. I don’t ever want to leave this job.”

Cabana also gave his thoughts about what a typical AEW show day is like for him.

“I get to the show. I wait until they tell me what match that I’ll be producing. Sometimes Shop AEW or Pro Wrestling Tees will send stuff with me, and I’ll go get it autographed, or I’ll go give it to someone to get it autographed, or I’ll kind of work in the autograph/merch department, or I’ll get some promos done for socials for Pro Wrestling Tees or for Shop AEW. I’ll do that. Once I get my assignment, they give me the match, and then I just kind of go over my match with the wrestlers.”

Cabana also gave his thoughts about his work as a producer and how he doesn’t like dictating to the wrestlers what they should do and if they have conflicting ideas, he will usually let the wrestler win out and try what they wanted.

“You’re the artist, you’re the wrestler, you’re the one that got yourself here. I’m only here to help your ideas, maybe help them grow, help put them together, help form them, make suggestions. But ultimately, it’s your match and I want you to either do great for your match or I want you to eat sh*t. So you learn, like, ‘Oh, this is why this didn’t work.’ Like, if you don’t have the learning experience, you’re not going to learn. That’s kind of the way I produce.”

Backstage Update on Ronda Rousey’s AEW Status & Future

As noted before, former MMA fighter and WWE wrestler Ronda Rousey made a surprise appearance at AEW’s Revolution 2026 event earlier this month in Los Angeles, California. Rousey’s appearance was notable for her confronting “Timeless” Toni Storm and teasing a potential feud between the two that is now believed to be put on hold or dropped due to Storm suffering an undisclosed injury and her not expected to wrestle again in 2026.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources confirmed that Rousey is currently not expected to make another appearance in AEW anytime soon.

Johnson reported that Rousey’s appearance at AEW’s Revolution 2026 event was just a one-off appearance designed to help promote her upcoming MMA fight against Gina Carano and also show up in support of Marina Shafir.

Johnson also reported that Revolution 2026 taking place locally and in the same market for Rousey’s upcoming MMA fight was just a moment where everything aligned together and made sense for all involved for her appearance at the event.
