Backstage Update on WWE’s Current Plans for Brock Lesnar’s Open Challenge Match for WrestleMania 42 & Potential Booking Issues

As noted before, the February 23rd episode of WWE RAW in Atlanta, Georgia featured Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar issuing an open challenge for Lesnar’s match at this April’s WrestleMania 42 event. Among the names that have been rumored to be Lesnar’s potential opponent includes LA Knight and Oba Femi.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that the general consensus from his sources spoken to within WWE believe that Femi will be the one who steps forward to challenge Lesnar at WrestleMania 42.

In regards to the recent online speculation of Gunther being the person to answer Lesnar’s challenge, Johnson reported that none of those spoken to stated that they don’t believe that is the current direction for the Gunther and Lesnar for WrestleMania this year.

Ibou reported in a recent episode of the Self Made Sessions podcast that his sources stated that both Lesnar and Heyman are currently politicking within WWE and WWE’s creative team to ensure that Lesnar does not lose another match until his retirement match. Ibou reported that this could cause some major issues for WWE’s current plans for WrestleMania 42 and beyond due to WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque would likely want to book at some point matches against Gunther and Femi for Lesnar but if he books those matches, Lesnar would likely need to lose in both matches.
