As noted before, Monday’s WWE RAW show in Houston, Texas featured a promo video from Asuka that appeared to be her challenging IYO SKY to a match at WrestleMania 42. SKY responded after the show responding to Asuka’s comments and issued her own challenge to Asuka for a match at the upcoming event.
During Tuesday’s episode of ESPN’s Get Up show, WWE officially revealed the cards for both nights of WrestleMania 42. These cards reveal did not feature the announcement of a potential match between SKY and Asuka for the event.
Bodyslam.net reported that their sources stated that despite the match not being announced as part of today’s card lineups for WrestleMania 42, their sources stated that WWE officials still have the SKY vs. Asuka match tentatively listed as part of the lineup for the event.
Post Wrestling’s John Pollock reported that his sources also confirmed that WWE is currently expected to add the match for the event.
In regards to the reason why the match has yet to be officially announced, the Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez reported that his sources stated that the reason is due to Nikki Bella’s current ankle injury situation. Alvarez reported that if Bella is not medically cleared in time to team up with her sister Brie for the scheduled WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match at WrestleMania 42, then the current plan is for the Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane) to be the replacement team.
Alvarez reported that if Nikki is able to be cleared in time, then the SKY vs. Asuka match will be officially announced for WrestleMania 42.
It was not stated what happens with SKY for WrestleMania if Asuka competes in the Women’s Tag titles match.
