Backstage Update on Willie Mack’s AEW Contract Status [Update: Mack Denies Report of Him Turning Down New Contract]

Update:

In a response on Twitter, Mack denied PWInsider’s Mike Johnson’s report about his existing contract with AEW had expired some time ago and he had turned down a new contract offer.

Mack stated “When did I turn it down?” and posted a gif of comedian Charlie Murphy saying “Wrong.”

As noted before, Willie Mack commented on Tuesday on Twitter about his current lengthy abscense from AEW and Ring of Honor stating that he was about to become a “homeless superhero” and claimed it was “because the booker doesn’t think he’s worth the money.” Mack has been absent from AEW since March of 2025 and from Ring of Honor since this past December.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that Mack currently remains under contract with AEW but he is no longer on the same type of deal he had been on for the past two years.

It was reported that when Mack first signed with AEW, he was under what was described as a “tier zero” contract which is a pay-per-appearance type deal. Mack reportedly was upgraded to a full-time salaried deal for the past two years before recently being moved back to a “tier zero” type agreement.

It was also reported that it is currently not known what led to the change in Mack’s contract situation. It was also reported that their sources within AEW are in contact with Mack regarding the situation.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that Mack was offered a new AEW contract “some time ago” but he opted to not sign it.
