The Sportster held a recent interview with AEW World Champion Darby Allin. One of the topics discussed included Allin’s thoughts about his current hectic work schedule and why he wanted to defend his title so much.
“I feel it’s always been my goal. defend that and actually do the exact opposite of what a champion on paper would do. You know, he wins it and then maybe defends it, you know, once every month at a pay-per-view, but now I’m at the exact opposite. It’s so fun just giving something because like I come from skateboarding background and all this stuff where it’s like a lot of my traditions are that opposite of what a pro wrestler, you know, so it’s like, why not just do something completely opposite?”
Allin also gave his thoughts about his upcoming Hair vs. Title match against MJF for his AEW World Championship at AEW’s Double or Nothing 2026 event and why he wanted MJF to put his hair on the line as a stipulation.
“No, he’s gonna say what he’s gonna say. But the thing is, that’s what’s so beautiful about the match on Sunday, is he’s gonna say what he’s gonna say, and I’m gonna tell him right now, I’m shaving his head, cause people are like, well, why the hair? Why the hair? I’m like, we’re talking about a man who flew all the way to Turkey to save what’s left of that hair. You know, so that’s like the one thing he holds dearest because he’s willing to go so much lengths to keep it. So if you just take it from him, that’s going to chip away at everything that he represents, you know, and the ego that he’s (got).”
Allin also gave his thoughts about WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley’s upcoming appearance for AEW at Double or Nothing 2026.
“He was one of my guys growing up because he was one of those guys, you flip through the TV and you’re like, ‘wait.’ Growing up, I don’t feel like I could relate to a lot of wrestlers, but him, being like this, Evel Knievel, stuntman performer, every night doing something – that was definitely inspiring, and it spoke to me because it’s everything I love. So, to have him around Sunday, it’ll be awesome. He’s definitely somebody I’ve looked up to.”
Allin also gave his thoughts about if he ever considered backing down from a spot or reconsidered doing the spot in the moment during a match.
“No, I haven’t reached that point yet. I haven’t reached that point yet, and at that rate, the adrenaline is so high, you know, it’s going so high that you’re willing, but also I’m very at peace with going to the hospital. So it’s nothing I’m avoiding, you know what I mean? So when you live in that state, I can’t, it keeps you like very, very ready to on edge at all times.”
In a separate recent interview with Q1043 New York, Allin revealed that he is getting married the day before AEW and NJPW’s co-promoted Forbidden Door 2026 event in San Jose, California.
“June 27th. It’s coming up. I found out… the wedding’s on the 27th, the very next day we have another pay-per-view (Forbidden Door). So no honeymoon here.”
Allin also revealed that he had proposed to his fiancee at the top of Mount Everest.
“She’s like, ‘it’s so cool that you’re still doing all the crazy stuff from high school,’ and then I was like, let’s hang out, and then brought her bungee jumping, and then I proposed to her on top of Everest.”
In another separate recent interview with the Busted Open Radio podcast, Allin also gave his thoughts about if he is concerned his body will catch up with his risky style of wrestling.
“Absolutely. But I won’t stop until that day happens. I think the beauty of what I do is I made a very calculated decision early on in my career where I didn’t want to look too pretty or dancey with my moveset in the sense of being super on the ropes and doing all this balance stuff. Because I know that is going to have a shelf life. But if you’re just going to Coffin Drop a fool, I feel like that’s pretty hard to mess up, falling backwards on someone. But as for the question of how long can my body endure what I’m putting it through, I think that just remains to be seen.”
Darby also gave his thoughts about if he would consider changing his style if that day ever comes and how he would rather retire from his wrestling career instead.
“I’m out. If I can’t do it the way I want to do it, I’m out. I’m out and that’s okay. The biggest thing I’ve taken away from Sting and being with Sting is, ‘Hey, you have to be at peace with yourself life after wrestling. You have to.’ Then the thing is, it’s just talking to Sting about it. It’s like, ‘I’m ready.’ Like, if this all ended tomorrow, I’m ready. But until then, I’m going to ride it till the wheels fall off. I don’t want to be that guy who’s not doing the version of Darby that you currently see.”
