Video: WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Recap

We’re introduced to our Spanish announce team (who are muted, at least on the Netflix feed…great job, Netflix!) before Wade and Tessitore take a look back at what went down last week on Saturday Night’s Main Event.

In-Ring: Jade Cargill, Michin, B-Fab, Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, Nick Aldis

Back at ringside, Jade Cargill and her amazing friends (B-Fab and Michin) make their entrance to a chorus of boos from the Barcelona crowd. It only gets worse as they start chanting something in Spanish, something I probably shouldn’t type out. Jade cuts through this, saying she doesn’t need to ask permission, but rather she does what she wants.

She makes the mistake of letting the crowd continue, telling her and her crew to “shut the f–k” up as B-Fab and Michin try to keep the promo…until Rhea Ripley’s music hits, drawing out the Women’s World Champion to a big pop. Riply walks down the ramp, staring down the trio in the ring as she grabs a microphone before stepping through the ropes. Another big pop for the champion as her music comes to an end, the crowd doing their “Olè” chant before Rhea calls Jade out for throwing around her dominance every week.

Cargill acts like 90 percent of her success isn’t using other people, whereas when it’s just Jade and Rhea in this ring, Ripley beats her. She beat Cargill at WrestleMania, and this Sunday she’s gonna beat Jade again. When they face off, Jade is going to look up at the true champion. This gets a big pop from the fans, which turns into boos and another “shut the f–k up” chant as Jade talks about the ladies she’s with looking for a piece of power.

She talks about Rhea not being able to work well with others, and this brings out Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. They each have a microphone as they head to the ring, where Flair talks about Jade not being here long for the ego she has. B-Fab cuts her off to call Jade the future of this business, but Bliss says the future needs to actually accomplish something first. Cargill starts to run Alexa down before Bliss tells her that she likes to give those who go against her a warning…so this is Jade’s one warning not to let her career get destroyed before it can even begin.

The bickering between the ladies in the ring comes to an end as Nick Aldis interjects from the stage, offering Jade and Bliss a chance to hash things out in the ring tonight. He calls for a ref to get this match going right now before we go to commercial.

Jade Cargill vs. Alexa Bliss

Jade starts to go after Bliss, who quickly leaves the ring to force Cargill to go on the pursuit. She forces Jade back into the ring before going up top…only for Cargill to catch her, sending Alexa to the mat hard. Bliss looks for a reset with a few shots before heading back to the turnbuckle, but Jade catches her with a press slam to the canvas while staring down Rhea Ripley. Alexa starts to fight back as she sends Jade to the outside…but Cargill once again catches Bliss in midair, slamming her to the floor with a powerbomb as we get muted audio to indicate a “break”…but thanks to the power of Netflix we keep the action rolling!

Well, “action” insofar as Jade maintaining control to bring Bliss back into the ring. She goes to work on the back of Alexa, driving her into the ropes before sending Bliss to the corner for a hip attack. She brings Bliss to the mat for a rear chinlock, before Alexa fights back to her feet…only to be sent back to the corner by Cargill, who mocks Alexa with some pushups that might make Scott Steiner proud. Alexa manages to get a few shots in before Jade brings her to the apron for more damage. She drops to the floor before hoisting Bliss onto her shoulders…but gets sent into the barricade by Bliss instead! (I’m going to assume we return from “break” at some stage, just assume we did lol)

This gives Alexa an opening as she sends Jade back into the ring for a flurry of offense, culminating in a flipping senton before getting a nearfall. She brings Jade to her feet, but Cargill blocks a Sister Abigail before sending Bliss to the ropes. She distracts the ref while B-Fab trips up Bliss, and this leads to Flair and Ripley brawling with Jade’s friends up the ramp. Bliss sees an opportunity as she lands some more shots on Jade before going up top, but there will be no Twisted Bliss or anything like that as Jade stops her, setting up for Jaded to pick up the win!

Winner: Jade Cargill via Pinfall.

The win is not enough for Jade as she grabs a chair from ringside, laying it in the ring for drop Bliss with a Jaded onto it before Ripley and Flair come running back down for the save. Jade escapes the ramp to boos as commentary talks about Gunther’s interference during the Cody Rhodes-Sami Zayn match last week on SmackDown.

Video: Cody Rhodes, Sami Zayn, Gunther

We cut backstage, where Cody’s interview is cut off by Sami Zayn running down Cody after what happened last week. Cody jabs back, talking about Zayn leaving him to get knocked out with a sleeper hold by Gunther. Sami calls himself “the last real good guy” as he says he was teaching Cody Rhodes a lesson…and Cody scoffs at this, saying maybe after he deals with Gunther he’ll teach Sami a lesson. SmackDown rolls on.

Backstage: Nick Aldis, Danhausen, The Miz

Elsewhere, Nick Aldis talks to Danhausen about his “equipment” being held at customs. Danhausen wants to know what he should do next, to which the GM says he’s expected to appear in front of the SmackDown crowd, which is how he earns the human money. He tells Danhausen to improvise, and Danhausen likes the sound of that as he walks away.

As he does, Miz approaches Aldis about the fact Kit Wilson was also kept at customs due to “too much moisturizer” and trying to find out how he’s supposed to face Axiom in his home country on his own. Aldis basically tells Miz to figure it out as that match is up next, and in the background we see Danhausen make off with a box from nearby. The lights flicker, confusing Aldis as we go to commercial.

The Miz vs. Axiom

We head back to ringside as The Miz makes his entrance for our next match (and whatever ad comes up being blocked out, thank you Netflix lol) before Lilian Garcia makes the announcement in Spanish for Axiom. He comes out to the ring alongside his Fraxiom partner Nathan Frazer, and unrelated to anything I can’t help but wonder what A-Kid is up to. Anyway, this match gets underway!

Axiom takes control early on, but Miz goes after his mask to turn things around. The lights flicker out for a moment, and this gives Axiom an opening to get a few shots in. Miz turns it back around with a mocking cartwheel before sending Axiom, but the masked man sends him across the ring for a flurry of kicks that forces Miz to the outside.

Miz waves off the fans before starting to head up the ramp…but Frazer stops him, allowing Axiom to bring the former WWE Champion back into the ring. Miz fires back with a kick, regaining control as we fade to black for a “break.”

Miz sends Axiom to the ropes for a knee lift, mocking the crowd before laying in a few more shots and an inverted DDT for the cover and a nearfall. He starts arguing with the ref as the crowd gives him what for, and Miz responds by continuing to lay into the masked man. Rear chinlock by The Miz as Axiom fights back to his feet, and the two start trading strikes. Axiom wins out as we return from “break.”

Axiom sends Miz to the ropes before taking him to the mat for a nearfall. Miz fires back with some kicks before Axiom lands some of his own, taking him out for another nearfall. Miz is back up and sends Axiom to the corner, blocking a Golden Ration before sending the masked man to the opposite corner.

He goes up top but gets caught in a triangle choke by Axiom! Miz crawls to the center of the ring as Axiom transitions into a modified Rings of Saturn, but Miz manages to break the grip and get free of the hold for a kick to Axiom’s head. He goes to the corner, climbing up top when the lights flicker out again. This concerns Miz, and it’s enough for Axiom to intercept him for a Golden Ratio to pick up the win!

Winner: Axiom via Pinfall.

Axiom celebrates as Miz escapes the ring.

Backstage: Damian Priest, R-Truth, Royce Keys

We cut backstage as Damian Priest talks to R-Truth about his health situation. Truth notes that he can’t get physically involved (as the crowd can be heard still cheering for their boy Axiom), but tells Priest that he got his buddy a tag team partner for tonight. Royce Keys appears and we get another Friday reference as Truth seems to be hiding his chains from Keys.

Priest is concerned about this being a set up the way Truth acts like he and Royce go years back. Truth says he’s right, saying he did in fact set this up. He asks if Priest and Keys are scared to go up against the MFTs…and appears to be scared or something himself as he wanders off. With that, SmackDown rolls on.

Backstage: Sami Zayn, Candice LeRae, Johnny Gargano, Matt Cardona

Sami talks about what Cody said to him earlier, and we see that he is once again talking to Johnny Gargano who is still laying down in silence. This is interrupted by the arrival of Matt Cardona, who is trying to understand what is going on with Sami and Cody. This leads to an argument between the two, which ends with Cardona saying he’ll go to Aldis to get a match against Sami tonight. He walks off and we head back to ringside.

Backstage: Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss, Rhea Ripley

We get a quick rundown for the day of Clash of Italy before heading backstage, where Charlotte Flair checks on Alexa Bliss before talking to Rhea Ripley. Rhea promises she’ll take care of Jade this Sunday, but Flair says if she doesn’t then Charlotte will, because Jade has a receipt coming. Rhea walks off as we head back to ringside.

Damian Priest & Royce Keys vs. The MFTs (Talla Tonga & Tama Tonga)

Talla and Priest start things off as the crowd chants “f–k you Solo” (narrowly slipping past the censors). Talla sends Priest to the corner before tagging Tama in, but Damian fires off some shots to send Tama to the opposite corner. This is interrupted by Royce tagging himself in, taking Tama to task before Tama fights back with a boot to the face. He charges at Keys, who drops him with a powerslam before sending him out of the ring.

Talla looks to catch Royce with a chokeslam but is intercepted by Priest, and the odd couple duo finally show some unity in sending Talla to the outside as muted audio takes us to a “break.”

Tama blindsides Priest, sending him to the outside before Talla gets a tag to go after Keys. He sends Royce to the corner, hoisting him up for a Samoan drop. Talla continues the attack, keeping Keys away from a tag before Tama gets in on the action with a tag of his own. He mocks Priest before laying into Royce with some more shots, followed by a tag to Talla who stomps at Keys a few times for good measure. He wrenches the head of Royce, who fights back to his feet as we presumably return from “break.”

Royce manages to fend off Talla, only for Tama to tag back in to keep Keys down. “OTC” chant breaks out as Tama gets caught by surprise by Keys, who gets the tag to Priest! Damian drops Tama before going at it with Talla, the two big men trading strikes before Talla gets sent to the outside. Tama sees an opening as he hits the ropes, but Priest drops him to the mat before going up top in the corner.

Diving clothesline gets Priest a nearfall before Talla breaks the pin, only to be sent out of the ring by Keys. With the ref distracted, Sikoa knocks Royce down while Talla gets the tag…but out comes Truth for the save! This doesn’t end up working out as Tama drops Keys to the floor while Talla drops Priest with a chokeslam for the win.

Winner: The MFTs via Pinfall.

MFT celebrate.

Backstage: Nick Aldis, The Miz, Danhausen

We cut backstage, where Miz threatens to sue Nick Aldis for what he’s been through the past few weeks. Nick says he’s going to look into the electrical issue now, as they pass by a room where Danhausen can be seen with a fire extinguisher. He says he’s put out all the fires as Miz starts to walk into the room, only to be blasted out with the extinguisher. Aldis walks into the room himself, trying to get a look at what’s under the sheet on a bed…but Danhausen says no looking!

WWE Clash in Italy Card Rundown

With that we get a rundown of the card for this Sunday, along with a reminder that the first hour will air live on ESPN with the Gunther-Rhodes WWE Championship match kicking off the show along with Cargill-Ripley for the WWE Women’s Championship.

Backstage: Chelsea Green, Tiffany Stratton

Backstage, Tiffany Stratton informs Chelsea Green she is not going out to the ring with her later tonight. Green is taken aback by this as Stratton says it’s “not that deep” before walking off. SmackDown rolls on.

Video: AAA, El Grande Americano, Original El Grande Americano

Video Package: The heated rivalry between El Grande Americano and the “Original” El Grande Americano comes to a head on May 30 when they face off in a Mask vs. Mask match at AAA Noches de los Grandes in Monterrey, Mexico!

Sami Zayn vs. Matt Cardona

The two lock up with Zayn taking the early advantage, only for Matt to turn things around when he sends Sami to the outside. He brings Zayn back to the ring but is intercepted by Zayn on the apron, landing a suplex to bring Cardona back in the ring the hard way for a nearfall. Some mounted punches land until Cardona gets back to his feet, only to be sent to the corner. Sami with a chop, but Matt fires back with some shots of his own before sending Zayn across the ring. He gets up top, sending Zayn to the outside with a missile dropkick as we fade to black for a “break.”

Zayn takes a breather on the outside before heading back into the ring, taking control of the match with a suplex as the crowd chant for both men. Zayn brings Cardona to his feet for a big right hand, sending Matt to the ropes. The ref calls for a clean break and Zayn obliges just enough for Cardona to head to the corner, where Sami lands some more shots for good measure on a fellow former United States Champion. He sends Matt to the, uh, mat for a two count before sending him to the ropes as we come back from “break.”

Sami with a rear chinlock on Cardona now, but Matt fights back with a jawbreaker before hitting the ropes for a comeback. He takes Zayn down hard, and when Sami heads to the corner he gets caught by Cardona. Broski Boot brings us back to about 2010 as Cardona looks for a Ruff Ryder…but Sami dodges it, only for Matt to evade a Blue Thunder Bomb. Double underhook into a powerbomb, but it only gets Cardona a nearfall.

Ruff Ryder attempt is blocked again, and this time it’s Zayn who hits a powerbomb for a two count. Cardona gets to the corner, where he counters a Helluva Kick to land a Ruff Ryder and the cover…but Zayn gets a boot on the bottom rope to break the pin!

Sami heads to the corner but is intercepted by Cardona as the two slug it out on the turnbuckle. Zayn wins out, and sets up for an exploder that sends Matt to the opposite corner…where Sami lands a Helluva Kick for the win!

Winner: Sami Zayn via Pinfall.

Sami celebrates the win as commentary talks about the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments coming up.

Video: King & Queen of the Ring Tournament History

We cut to a video package looking at the history of the tournament, from the early days of King of the Ring to the rise of the Queen of the Ring crowning achievement. This Monday kicks off tournament action, which will culminate at Night of Champions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Backstage: Lil Yachty, Trick Williams

Backstage, we see Lil Yachty meeting up with Trick Williams as we’ll hear from them later tonight.

Video: WWE: Made In America Trailer

We cut to an ad promoting WWE: Made In America, which will air after SmackDown tonight on USA Network. As for us, right now? We go to commercial break.

Backstage: Nick Aldis, Gunther

We get a (muted, lol) ad for Fanatics Fest NYC before heading backstage, where Aldis tells someone he’s granted TV time to let them get things out. It turns out he’s talking to Gunther, who promises to keep his beating to a verbal one as he addresses Cody face-to-face later tonight. Next time they consider going to Spain, they should consider Madrid instead. That’s heel heat, brother, and SmackDown rolls on.

In-Ring: Lil Yachty, Trick Williams, Carmelo Hayes, Ricky Saints

We head to ringside as Lil Yachty and Trick Williams make their entrance. Yachty introduces himself to the Barcelona audience as the “man with the money” before talking about the Trick Williams Campaign. The crowd is on board with that, chanting “whoop that Trick” as WIlliams says let’s talk about it.

He talks about beating Sami Zayn and Carmelo Hayes, before looking ahead to the future. He declares himself for the King of the Ring tournament, before Melo makes his way out to interrupt. He says Trick might be king of the mic, and even king of the entrance, but King of the Ring? That’s grown folks business, and Trick is too little.

He’s going to deal with Ricky Saints tonight for getting involved in our business, and then Melo and Trick will go at it for the United States Title next week, and that’s just what it is. Trick interrupts calling Melo “melodramatic” before running the former champ down. He talks about the possibility of them going eye to eye and face to face for this title, but out comes “Absolute” Ricky Saints to absolute…ly no reaction, at least at first.

He talks about the fans wanting to see a real champion like Ricky Saints (this finally gets boos from the crowd) as he heads to the ring, talking about wanting a shot at the United States Championship himself. Trick interrupts, telling Ricky to keep his mouth shut before sending him out of the ring with a backhand slap!

Trick briefly confronts Melo once more before making his exit from the ring, as we go to commercial break before Hayes is set to face Ricky Saints!

Carmelo Hayes vs. Ricky Saints

This match was joined in progress during the break as Hayes hit Saints with a dropkick after a roll over. Hayes kept momentum going with his reverse legdrop on a prone Saints. A lariat from Saints stopped Hayes’ momentum cold as he took over in the corner with the stomps. Hayes recovered and hit a pair of chops on Saints, followed by the running forearm into the corner. Hayes kept the heat up with the punches in the corner, followed by an attempted springboard attack. Hayes was shoved out of the ring by Saints, who threw him into the barricades as he struck a pose in the ring and we took a timeout.

This match continued from commercial as Saints was still in control. Hayes was put on the top rope as Saints looked for a superplex. Hayes shoved Saints to the mat and lookes for the frog splash. Knees up by Saints, followed by the Northern Lights suplex for the near-fall. Hayes recovered and got the leaping DDT on Saints. Both men back to their feet as they exchanged strikes. Hayes connected with the trademark springboard clothesline. That was soon followed by Dirty Diana for the near-fall. Hayes was hit by the reverse DDT from Saints for the near-fall. Saints got sent out of the ring and hit with Hayes’ Fosbury Flop. Hayes then got on the barricade and hit Saints with the clothesline. However, this match ended with a double countout.

Winner: None.

Post-match, Saints attacked Hayes from behind, but the ambush was turned aside as Hayes superkicked Saints and delivered First 48.

Video: Blake Monroe

We got a vignette from Blake Monroe that took a direct shot at Rhea Ripley. She said that that she was coming soon… despite the fact we saw her last week in a brief backstage cameo.

Nia Jax vs. Chelsea Green

Jax threw Green across the ring to start, but the wily Canadian soon got the advantage as she sent Jax out of the ring and took her down with a suicide dive, which was our cue for a commercial break.

We returned from commercial as Green’s Rough Ryder attempt was turned into a Jax powerbomb. Jax’s missed legdrop allowed for Green to get a momentary respite with the jumping neckbreaker. That was followed by the Rough Ryder for the close near-fall. Lash Legend tried to get involved, but she got kicked aside. However, that allowed for Nia Jax to hit Green with the Samoan Drop. Was it time for the Annihilator? No, as Tiffany Stratton’s music hit and she ended up hitting Jax with the Women’s US Title in the chaos. Green took advantage and got the pin and win.

Winner: Chelsea Green via Pinfall.

Backstage: Scream Mode, Fatal Influence

Cathy Kelly interviewed WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Scream Mode (Paige & Brie Bella). This led to Fatal Influence’s Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Lainey Reid showing up to interrupt and Jayne officially announced that she is entering this year’s Queen of the Ring tournament

In-Ring: Cody Rhodes, Gunther

The Undisputed WWE Champion and his Clash in Italy foe made their way down for this final faceoff ahead of their match on Sunday in Turin.

Gunther said he wasn’t here to engage with any of the fans, but he wanted to talk to Rhodes. Gunther said that Rhodes made it all about himself, and that he was a product of the American society that birthed him. Gunther pointed out that Rhodes nickname was fitting as a descriptor of the declining American society. Gunther said his mission was to protect the sacred sport of wrestling from people like Rhodes. He called Rhodes a mark for himself.

Rhodes responded by saying that Gunther didn’t want the responsibility of being a champion and all that it implied. He pointed out Paul Heyman and what he told him to intimidate him. Rhodes said that the world title was addictive and that Gunther was as sick as he was. At Clash in Italy, Rhodes said that Gunther was going to get this close to the title, but we were all going to find out that he just wasnt going to be good enough. “Easy to find, hard to beat,” said Rhodes.

Gunther asked if Rhodes thought he was a liar. He boasted about how he beat Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles. He promised to choke Rhodes out and take the title with him.

Producer credits are up, as well as hype for WWE’s America 250 special, which airs on USA tonight after SmackDown, and we’re out.
