FOX 19 Now Cincinnati held a recent interview with AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley. One of the topics discussed included Moxley’s thoughts about one of his favorite things about AEW is the uniqueness of the venues chosen for shows.
“That’s one of the things I really love the most about AEW is our choices of venues are unique, and the Brady Center is obviously a music venue. Very unique atmosphere for wrestling where… with the balcony and the seats on the floor, you’re really right up on top of the action. So you can feel the sweat and blood flying off people. You can really feel the hits and everything like that, and you can see up close the really gruesome things that happen sometimes.”
Moxley also gave his thoughts in character about eye gouging in pro wrestling and the correct way to pop out an eyeball of your opponent during a match.
“There are really no rules in professional wrestling, but under Continental Championship rules, it’s kind of a gentleman’s agreement to keep it relatively clean. But there are some ways to skirt very close to the line, and you need a ticket to be there live to see that kind of stuff. The mistake most people make when they’re trying to remove somebody’s eyeball from their skull is they come at it with their forefinger and their thumb like this. Like a pincer. This is not the way to do it, really. Like if you take your hand, like this is why grip strength is so important in professional wrestling. These four fingers on the back of the skull, and then you just use your thumb. There’s no pincing. It’s just a lot of pressure right here at the bottom of the eye socket. Pressure kind of like you’re popping a balloon. If you really commit. If you have the ambition and really commit to this, it’ll pop right out of there. Because they’ll cut away on camera. But if you’re there live to see it at the Brady Center, you can get a look at that and be like, ‘oh my’.”
In a separate recent interview with Sportsinnati, Moxley gave his thoughts about his Death Riders group’s current feud with Shane Taylor Promotions in AEW and his upcoming AEW Continental Championship defense against Shane Taylor.
“I have a lot of respect for my opponent in a sense tonight, but it’s become a real personal issue. His team, the Shane Taylor Promotions, my team, the Death Riders, become a bit of a cross-town rivalry between us. Shots have been fired and he put one of my friends on the shelf injured him pretty badly the other day. Now that puts even more impetus on me to make sure I get the job done in a championship setting, and, you know, over the course of two nights, you know, you have all these unpredictable elements, like him and all his friends and me and all my friends. Emotions are running high and egos are on the line, and, you know, championships aside, you know, things can get out of control over two days. So you’re going to have to be there to see how all this plays out over the next couple of days because I have no idea what’s going to happen. It could be full on anarchy gang warfare by the time the weekend gets here.”
Moxley also gave his thoughts about he would fantasy book himself against for a match if given the chance.
“I’ve been asked that question like a million times, the little kid version of me would say Bret Hart. That would have been a good thing. I look at it like where would I have thrived in more so than like this particular match? Like what place in time would I have really like thrived in? 80s and mid-south or the 90s and ECW I think I would have thrived in all those areas right?”
In a different separate interview with B-105.1, Moxley gave his thoughts about recording the the audio book version of his Mox autobiography.
“Yeah, it’s very difficult. It’s one of the worst parts of it because it takes a really long time and takes a couple weeks, and we’re sitting there recording it, and the worst part of it is it just feels so pretentious to, like, read your own words back. Like… it kind of makes you feel kind of foolish, like, ah, let me read my dictations to the world, you know, like, but, uh, so it kind of makes you feel like a little silly or reading your own words, but people enjoyed it. I was really glad about that. That’s still, that’s available out there wherever you get audio books and stuff, if you like reading about gory pro wrestling violence and frivolity and things of that nature.”
