Houston Life held a recent interview with Thunder Rosa. One of the topics discussed included Rosa’s thoughts about what women’s wrestlers needed to be put on a level playing field with men’s wrestlers in the pro wrestling industry.
“I think just in general in sports, people need to understand that we are able to sell tickets, that we’re able to put people in seats. I mean, WNBA is a perfect example of that. Women’s wrestling has been, you know, been going strong for a while, and I feel like a lot of the very strong matches have been the women’s matches and the pay-per-view. So I know we can’t do that if we’re given the opportunity in the time to on television. I think it’s so competitive for women to be on TV because there’s only certain spots that we can be in. But I think that for example, in AEW, what we were able to accomplish a couple years ago, and even now with some of the matches, because they’ve been pretty intense. I don’t want to use another…. a little brutal too. But it’s like women are able to show that we can just go as hard and we can be as good as the guys. So we just need that little (chance).”
Rosa also gave her thoughts about how much she practices new things before she tries them during her matches on television.
“You know what? Sometimes it’s like for me, I like to try things in the ring, like live to see how the fans are reacting, and sometimes I’ve tried new things on national TV. I’ve been lucky that I did a pretty good job.”
Thunder also gave her thoughts about her schedule at home in regards to being an active pro wrestler.
“In a good day, especially when I’m at home, I wake up, I have breakfast, walk my dog, then I go to the gym for about two hours, then I come back, and then I have to do either I have to study, like Lucha, especially Lucha Libre. I’ve been like dreaming of Lucha Libre right now. Because it’s like speaking two different languages. Working in the United States is one thing. Working in Mexico is a different thing. The fans are different. The likes are different.”
Rosa also gave her thoughts about her not wanting to compete in deathmatches anymore but she remains open to doing it on occasion.
“I don’t want death matches anymore, that’s been enough (giggles). I can do an occasional one because, honestly, I like it a lot. It is a way to use your creativity in a not very common way and you can tell a story in a bloodier, a little colder, a little more violent, a little more crazy way. I feel that in this phase that I am being Amazona (part of CMLL), it costs me a little more work because now I have to think about details, about moves, about the way of telling the story that will resonate to the public in Mexico because it is different from the public of the United States. In the two companies, in CMLL the best wrestle there, same thing in AEW.”
