As noted before, Sheamus is currently expected to depart from WWE once his contract expires. Sheamus’ upcoming departure was later revealed to be due to him turning down WWE’s offer for a restructured contract extension deal.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that a high-level WWE official had went to TKO and “went to bat” for Sheamus. This person reportedly drove into the value that Sheamus brings to WWE that stretched beyond his in-ring contributions.
In regards to the future of Sheamus’ wrestling career, it was reported that one person close to Sheamus stated that they believe he would welcome the idea of competing for AEW if the right situation presented itself. This same person reportedly stated that Sheamus would also likely be open to the idea of working for AEW even on a short-term basis.
