The Battleground Podcast featured AEW CEO Tony Khan as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts about WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley being under contract with AEW and his belief that Foley will be a more regular presence on AEW programming going forward but not on a weekly basis.
“Fittingly, these are two of the best nights in the history of the company so he picked two great nights to make his debut on pay-per-view with AEW at Double or Nothing, and on TV with AEW at Beach Break. So when Mick (Foley) is in the house, you know good things are gonna happen, and Mick’s gonna be a more regular presence in the show I think. Not necessarily every single week, but, I’m excited to have Mick come in more and more.”
Khan also gave his thoughts about WWE counter-programming with their upcoming new WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event on the same day and market as AEW’s All Out 2026 event and if he views it as being healthy competition or just the reality of the wrestling business.
“It’s probably all of the above. I think it’s all of the above. It’s the reality of current wrestling. It’s the, frankly, predatory nature of scheduling of events but also, the compliment that says that AEW’s doing very well and Chicago’s a great city for wrestling. I’m very excited about AEW All Out, and it’s not something unexpected to have competition and I do welcome it and I also really am excited about the run of shows coming up.”
Khan also gave his thoughts about the potential of Ring of Honor holding another Hall of Fame class in the future following the debut class in 2022.
I really think that’s a tremendous thought. I have not added to the Ring of Honor Hall of Fame. It was a fantastic inaugural class, that Ring of Honor, the previous administration, had inducted. So that was something that had already been set up when I bought the company. I think they picked a fantastic class, and I do think there are people that would be fantastic additions to the Ring of Honor Hall of Fame, and it is definitely something to think about and something I am interested in.”
Khan also gave his thoughts about if he would turn it into a live ceremony for HonorClub.
“I’m not sure because you just got me thinking about it again. I’ll have to consider that. But it’s a great thought by you and I’ll take that under advisement. It’s a good consideration by you.”
Khan also gave his thoughts about if the ROH Women’s World Champion Athena would be inducted into the ROH Hall of Fame and his belief that she has an excellent case for induction.
“I absolutely think she would have an excellent case to be in that. Yes.”
Khan also gave his thoughts about the potential of AEW launching their own Hall of Fame in the future.
“I think it’s a good thought. I’d be interested in doing it.”
