Athena Sets Record For Longest Reigning Champion in U.S. in Modern History

Athena surpassed Roman Reigns to set the new record for longest ever reigning World champion in the United States in the modern era of pro wrestling as of today.

Athena’s current ROH Women’s World Championship reign of 1,317 days surpassed the previous record held by Roman Reigns’ WWE Universal Championship reign from August 30, 2020 to April 7, 2024.

Athena reflected earlier today on Twitter about her setting the new all-time record for longest ever World Championship reign in the modern era.

“I meant FOREVER!!!! Longest reigning champion of the modern era belongs to me and me only!! #ForeverROHChamp #FallenGoddess #AmericanJoshi”

Athena has been the reigning ROH Women’s World Champion since ROH Final Battle 2022 in December 10, 2022.

NJPW To Hold Wrestling Event at New Chitose Airport This September in Japan

Sunday’s NJPW G1 Climax 2026 event in Hokkaido, Japan featured a special announcement made at the start of the show involving NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi and Yusuke Kimura of Hokkaido Airports.

It was announced that NJPW will be holding an event on September 18 at the New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido in as part of the airport’s 100th anniversary celebrations this year.

Baron Corbin Appears at July 18 MLW Fusion Show Following WWE Return

As noted before, Baron Corbin, former Bishop Dyer in Major League Wrestling and the indies, made his surprise return to WWE at the July 10th WWE SmackDown show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Prior to his return, Corbin had been stripped of his half of the MLW World Tag Team Championship on the July 4th episode of MLW Fusion.

Saturday’s MLW Fusion show on beIN Sport, Veeps, and MLW’s YouTube channel featured Corbin making a surprise appearance.

Corbin was revealed to be the mystery partner for The Skyscrappers (Donovan Dijak & Josh Bishop) match against CONTRA MERCS (Mads Krule Krugger & The Good Brothers (Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows). This match was originally advertised as being a 2-on-3 Handicap match in favor of CONTRA’s side.

This show was originally taped on April 12 in Charleston, South Carolina for the reason for Corbin’s surprise return appearance.
