WWE: CM Punk on “Watching Peers Retire From WWE Keeps Me Motivated”, Backstage Update on WWE’s Current Plans for Maxxine Dupri in The Vision, Sami Zayn Launches New Sami For Syria Charity Fundraiser Campaign

CM Punk Comments on “Watching Peers Retire From WWE Keeps Me Motivated”

WWE recently released a new video featuring a behind-the-scenes look at CM Punk’s surprise return and Undisputed WWE Championship victory at the July 6th WWE RAW show in Rosemont, Illinois. One of the topics discussed included Punk’s thoughts about the kinship he feels with Sami Zayn and how watching his peers retire from WWE has kept him motivated to continue on with his own in-ring wrestling career.

“We watched Cena retire. We watched AJ Styles retire. And it’s almost, I feel like sometimes, everybody’s now looking at me like, ‘Oh, when are you going to retire?’ But guys like me and Sami, who came up the same way, started on the indies, were told ‘no.’ We said, ‘Watch this.’ We’re told, ‘You’ll never make it here.’ Made it here. We’re told, ‘Well, you’re never going to be anything.’ Became something. And then told, ‘You’re never going to be champion.’ Became champion. You know, that says a lot. Not just for me, but for him.

You’d have to ask him — I’m not putting words in his mouth — but I think he would agree that it’s about, we’re in a foxhole to some extent. It’s about the guy next to you and it’s about the kids coming up. I am at the point where I’m watching my contemporaries retire, and it almost keeps me motivated to say, ‘You know what, I’m still here.’ And I feel like I’m operating on that high level. I feel like I’ve never been better. Why would I step away?”

Punk also gave his thoughts about his Undisputed WWE title victory and how once-in-a-lifetime nights like this still make him nervous and he was excited to create another moment for his hometown fans in Chicago.

“This is a special business to me. And sometimes I’ve been accused of taking it too seriously, and sometimes I’ve been accused of not taking it seriously enough. But my career has been so long that we can now look back on all these moments. And I get to cherish that much more — the ability to still be here at the highest level in front of the best fans in the world to create more moments.”

Sami Zayn Launches New Sami For Syria Charity Fundraiser Campaign & Matching Every Donation Made Up To $20,000

Sami Zayn celebrated his 42nd birthday this past Sunday.

Zayn announced on Twitter that for his birthday wish, he is partnering with the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) for a new fundraiser campaign for his Sami For Syria charity organization.

Zayn also announced that he will be matching all donations up to $20,000 for his charity fundraiser campaign.

Official press release:

“WWE Superstar Sami Zayn Launches Campaign to Provide Lifesaving Healthcare to Displaced Syrians Through SAMS Mobile Clinics

WWE Champion and humanitarian fundraiser matches donations to support mobile medical clinics delivering care to underserved communities across Syria

WASHINGTON, DC – July 13, 2026 – WWE superstar Sami Zayn is calling on fans around the world to support his annual Sami For Syria fundraising campaign, benefiting the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) and its mobile medical clinics providing essential healthcare services to vulnerable communities across Syria.

On his birthday, Zayn announced that he is personally matching every donation made to the campaign up to $20,000, with a goal of raising $40,000 to fund two SAMS mobile clinics through the end of the year.

For years, Zayn has partnered with SAMS to support mobile healthcare teams operating on the ground in Syria, bringing primary medical care directly to displaced Syrians and people living in rural areas where access to healthcare remains limited.

“These mobile clinics come directly out to people who otherwise have no access to healthcare and deliver, in some cases, lifesaving medical care,” Zayn said in his campaign announcement. “Today is my birthday, and I’m trying to raise as much money as possible to support these clinics.”

The campaign comes at a moment of heightened attention for Zayn, following one of the biggest moments of his WWE career. After capturing the WWE Championship in front of a global audience, Zayn’s reign lasted nine days before he lost the title – a storyline that generated significant fan engagement and widespread sports entertainment coverage.

Now, Zayn is using that momentum to shine a spotlight on humanitarian efforts and encourage fans to make an impact beyond the wrestling ring.

SAMS mobile clinics provide essential healthcare services including primary care consultations, medications, maternal and child health services, chronic disease management, and emergency medical support for communities with limited access to healthcare.

Since its founding, SAMS has supported medical care for millions of people affected by conflict and humanitarian crises, working through hospitals, clinics, and mobile medical teams across Syria and other regions.
