A recent episode of the Ring The Belle podcast featured Zoey Serrano, former Zoey Stark in WWE. One of the topics discussed included Serrano’s thoughts about her censoring Liv Morgan and other WWE Supserstars photos on social media as her character’s way of criticizing their presentation and how she had pitched to do a Right To Censor character in WWE only to have it always be dismissed.
“I wanted to do it so bad. The Right to Censor character. I wanted to do a modern-day Right to Censor. I came back. I pitched it. I pitched it on many occasions.
I tried, guys. I really, really tried because those Twitter interactions were hilarious. They were great. I was having fun with them. Liv Morgan told me to do it. She pulled me aside, she’s like, ‘You really just need a character and I feel like this is the route for you. Why won’t you just try it? Just try it on Twitter. Let’s just see what happens.’
So, I went to her for my first post. I’m like, ‘Alright, I’m going to put this. What do you think?’ She’s like, ‘Yeah, that’s great. Now just do the sensor right here.’ Like you sure? She’s like, ‘Yeah. What’s the worst that’s going to happen? Just post it. You have my permission to do it.’ And I would for sure message Rhea (Ripley) like, ‘Hey I’m going to make this post’ or message whoever to make sure the girls are okay with it before I actually do it. I’m always going to make sure the other person’s okay with it before I say something.
I wanted to do it and I really feel like it was a missed opportunity, especially with what wrestling is today.”
Serrano also gave her thoughts about the missed opportunity of her having a singles feud with Trish Stratus in 2023 in WWE and lack of a follow-up feud after their on-screen partnership ended when Stratus lost to Becky Lynch at WWE Payback 2023 and Stratus had attacked her after blaming her for the loss.
“Yeah, it could have taken my career down a different path. That’s okay, things happen for a reason and we just roll with the punches.”
Serrano also gave her thoughts about how she was aware that Stratus might not make an appearance following that segment and how they had discussed doing something together but the plans for it ultimately did not work out.
“I did. Yeah. I found out that day. We kind of, it wasn’t like a talk of ‘This is definitely my last appearance.’ It was just more of as of right now this is what’s kind of happening and we’ll see what happens after and we wanted to do something together and it just didn’t work out. You know that’s just how wrestling works. Not everything works out the way you want it to.”
Serrano also gave her thoughts about a health scare she had before her main event match against Becky Lynch on the July 10, 2023 episode of WWE RAW.
“On that same day, I ended up, so this was in Memphis. I went to get Memphis barbecue and next thing I know I get this big swelling. Under my chin. No idea. Like an allergic reaction. No idea. And it just filled up with saliva, I guess because when I went to an ENT after, they said you have a stone stuck in your saliva gland. So I had them put on a crap ton of makeup to try and cover it cause I was just swelling right here and then this side looked normal.
I was stressed out about that and then I was stressed out about the match. I tend to get bad health anxiety. All the things are going through my head like, ‘Is this what is this? What’s happening?’ Luckily it was just a stone that blocked my saliva.
It was just that on top of the main event in Raw, on top of wrestling Becky, on top of my first ever match where I could use any weapons, right? It was just a lot. But best night ever. My favorite match.”
