Paul Wight on Darby Allin Being “The Ultimate Babyface”, Him Seeing “Huge Big Star Potential” In Kyle Fletcher, His Captain Insano Character and Working Hard To Bring It Out Again, & Working With Shaquille O’Neal

First Coast News held a recent interview with Paul Wight. One of the topics discussed included Wight’s thoughts about his belief that Darby Allin is the “ultimate babyface.”

“You’re going to have Darby and Steve Borden on the show tomorrow, and Darby is literally, like, if I was a bad guy again, I want Darby for an opponent. I would sling his guts all over the place. Like, Darby is the ultimate. We have a term in our business called baby face. Darby is the ultimate babyface. I’m such a huge fan of that kid. He is focused on business, incredible character, tough as a coffin nail, and has done so many things outside of wrestling.”

In a separate recent interview with News4Jax’s Going Ringside podcast, Wight also gave his thoughts about how he currently sees huge big star potential for Kyle Fletcher in AEW.

“A guy I think is building incredible momentum and I see huge big star potential is Kyle Fletcher. He checks every box, interview ability, wrestling ability, tenacity, aggression. his attitude for the industry, his willingness to work hard, the way he presents himself, his interaction with guys in the locker room, you know, behind the scenes. He’s very humble, very quiet, very good kid, and I like seeing what he does. I look at him, hmm, that guy’s got money written on him.”

Wight also gave his thoughts about his Captain Insano character from The Waterboy film and how he has been working on bringing the character back out through a lot of hard work.

“Captain (Insano) is a lot of fun. We’re still working on that, actually. I have a lot of fun with it. Of course, that character was iconic in the movie The Waterboy. I’m going through a lot of hard work to bring that character out, to present that character in its best possible format.”

Wight also gave his thoughts about working with NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal and how he has learned a few things from Shaq.

“Shaq is a wonderful, wonderful human being. We laugh every time we’re around each other. We have experienced all the same things as far as being bigger in size and whatnot. He loves wrestling. He’s got a great attitude. Super keen, super keen business mind. I know that Kevin Hart and a lot of comedians give him a hard time about him talking slow. Let me tell you something. That brother is smart. I’ve learned quite a few things. Even the little conversations we’ve had about things, I was like, ‘eh, that guy’s on to something.’”
