A federal judge in Minnesota has upheld a $1.8 million judgment in favor of Jesse Ventura in his lawsuit against the estate of Chris Kyle, author of American Sniper. He sued the estate over what Kyle said about him in the 2012 book. Kyle claimed he beat up a man in a California bar that he found out was Ventura. He also claimed that Ventura made negative comments about the government and Navy SEALs.
Ventura claimed that Kyle used the defaming story to make money off of his name. The case went to trial in July. While witnesses claimed that the fight actually happened, the judge didn’t think they were credible. Ventura had his own witnesses which said the fight didn’t happen and eventually he won the case. Kyle’s estate tried to get the ruling thrown out, claiming the law and evidence didn’t support the ruling. That was denied on November 26.
