Former WWE Diva Maria Kanellis spoke to Maria-Kanellis.org yesterday about Mickie James and Katie Lea Burchill being let go from the company this week.
Regarding Mickie James, Maria said, “We were friends, but we kind of grew apart near the end. I don’t know what her release revolved around, but I assume it was probably about the same thing that mine was. When you push back sometimes, people just let you go.” She added, “I’m happy for her because I think that it’s the best time in her life to get released because she does have an album coming out.”
Maria, who was released from WWE back in February, says that WWE has a track record of misusing the Divas, especially if they have other projects outside of the WWE Universe (ie. music albums). “When you can’t hold someone underneath your thumb anymore, sometimes it’s better just to let them go. I’m a very passionate person and I get bored so very easy. If you just make me do one thing all the time and you don’t even let me do that one thing properly – they dropped the ball so many times on storylines.”
As for Katie Lea Burchill, Maria called her a “tremendous asset” to the Women’s division. “It seems to me, for some reason, they seem to fire the wrong person. That’s really bad,” Maria said. “I cannot believe they fired her.”
