WWE’s medical director is drawing heat for comments he made on The NFL Network about concussions. Joseph Maroon, who also works as an NFL medical consultant and neurosurgeon for the Pittsburgh Steelers, appeared on the Network following Chris Borland’s retirement at twenty-four due to concussion concerns and said that football is safer than it’s ever been.
The comment he made that has made waves in the media relates to youth football, saying, “The problem of CTE, although real, is it’s being over-exaggerated and being extrapolated to youth football and to high school football…it’s much more dangerous riding a bike or a skateboard than playing youth football.”
The comments have drawn attention from several major news outlets including ESPN, NBC News, the Washington Post and more.
