Nic Nemeth on Negative Discourse Surrounding TNA Departures & He Wasn’t Sure If His TNA World Title Storyline With KC Navarro Would Be Him Mentoring Navarro Or Turning On Him Immediately

A recent episode of the Counted Out with Mike & Tyler podcast featured TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Nemeth’s thoughts about the negative discourse online surrounding the recent talent departures from TNA Wrestling and him wanting fans to talk about the company’s new hires and re-signings as well.

“The really funny thing for me is some people are texting me like, ‘Man, is everybody leaving TNA?’ I go, uhm, some people left and some people got rehired and some people are newly hired. It’s almost the same number of people. If anything, we might have two more new people than we had go away. It’s really easy to focus on the negative and go, man, every time someone leaves, we announce it on social media somewhere. Then, every time they hire somebody, we say it on TNA and nobody really talks about it. I don’t understand. WWE releases 40 people and hires two and it’s like, okay, business as usual. We have five people decide not to re-sign, we re-sign five other people and bring in two new people and it’s, man, everyone is leaving. So that sucks, but like I tell my friends and my dad, stop reading the internet, just go with what really happens. Watch what we did. We announced some new people.”

Nemeth also gave his thoughts about some of his favorite up-and-coming names in TNA.

“[Ricky Sosa] is going to be something extra special for us that is just with us. Him and Leon are going to be incredible. BDE down the line is going to make an extra name for himself with TNA. Jada Stone, people who are have been signed, but are just getting going. Harley [Hudson], Order 4 is going to have so many different people. Just in those few names that I mentioned, those are new signings, re-hirings, and new people coming in who are just getting their start. When you know that, it’s really easy to go, oh, this is a great locker room, we’re having fun.”

Nemeth also gave his thoughts about his praise of TNA and the talent who work to help make the company better.

“Sometimes, our younger guys and gals will read the internet, but then when you get to see them at work, you go, ‘Hey, this is how the business works. My old job, every Friday after WrestleMania, we assumed half of us were gone. 30, 40, or 20 people would be gone, because that’s how it goes. If you’re not being used, if you’re not doing something, you’ve got to go. With TNA, we had a couple of people who were in the bench, on the cusp is getting some TV time and they’re just slowly being brought in and that is the perfect way to do it. I’m looking forward to Order 4 making and breaking some new people over the next couple of weeks and months. The Elegance brand, that entire team has been doing fantastic work. We have Bear Bronson — I don’t know if they do like Rookie Of The Year stuff, but watching this guy, he’s so quickly standing out, it’s blowing my mind. There is a lot of positive. But also, we go, ‘Hey, we had a good week of ratings.’ TNA posted it. I go, ‘I can’t wait to tell everybody when we get to Philadelphia.’ Hey, listen, if you live by that, you’re going to die by that. One week when it’s down, you better be ready to pay for it too. So, I will do my part. I will bring everyone in, hopefully with the emotions of the promos and knowing the show-stealing matches. But at the moment, we do what we do best. We keep our head down, we keep rocking and rolling, we bring in some new people. We bring up some younger talent to the main event picture and hopefully I continue to steal the show in the main event and everyone goes, ‘This is the company that we’re rooting for and talking about because they back it up in the ring, they back it up on the microphone, and they back it up outside of the ring.’

In a separate recent interview with GOW Media, Nemeth also gave his thoughts about his storyline with KC Navarro in TNA and how at one point, the creative direction for the story was unclear to him.

“KC (Navarro) is actually one of the guys that, he told me he looked up to me a long time ago, and I somewhat took him under my wing before he left for a while with the injury. But that’s what separates people who long term are in this business and people who have a couple years run. He wants it and gets it, and has this injury that so many people could be down like hard and you go, ‘Am I ever coming back?’ We’re always saying that, but he actually busted his ass, he was just getting going, and it’s so easy mentally to be taken out of the game, and not only did he not do that, he came back better, stronger, smarter, quicker. We didn’t know if I was going to be mentoring him on TV, I didn’t know the situation creatively, or if I’m just going to turn on him and take his head off. We get to lead to a match, and I said, if I get a couple of minutes with this kid with the title on the line and the story is there, the multiple weeks we had months first with almost taking him under my wing, but then slowly turning that into like, ‘hey, man, I’m not your hero, but I’m trying to teach you some stuff’ into, ‘alright, I got to knock the shit out of you and we’re going to have a title match.’”
