Variety reports that Josh Gad (Frozen, Pixels) will provide the script for WWE Studios’ Gorgeous George, a biopic about the life of the titular wrestler. Gad will write with his partner Ryan Dixon while WWE will produce with Robert Halmi Jr’s Great Point Media.
The film will follow the life and career of George Raymond Wagner, the wrestler who is credited with inspiring the personas of Muhammad Ali and James Brown. He’s also credited with bringing sports into the TV age.
WWE Studios President Michael Luisi said: ““Gorgeous George was a true pioneer in television. Josh is a true talent and we are thrilled to see him and Ryan tackle such a groundbreaking story.”
WWE Studios will distribute the film worldwide. They’ll use their weekly TV shows, digital and social media and the WWE Network to promote the movie.
