When he released a statement about his release yesterday, Cody Rhodes mentioned that he asked WWE creative and the people in charge of the company to let him go back to being Cody Rhodes.
Dave Meltzer noted in last night’s wrestling Observer Radio that the plan was for Rhodes to drop the Stardust character around WrestleMania 32 or the night after.
Meltzer said: ,b>“Vince McMahon and Triple H – and it was more Vince McMahon on this one, from what I was told – they decided [that] we’re not going to do it.”
He said that while Rhodes was released by WWE, he’s still being held to his contract and the departure was “not amicable”. He said that WWE is “kind of putting the screws to him.” Since Rhodes quit, WWE is reportedly trying to make it difficult contractually to go to another wrestling company. WWE has previously “released” talents, but held them to a non-compete for the remaining time left on their deals.
