He spoke about the “powerful messages” at the start of the show, roasting athletes during the opening monologue and more. He hoped that no one took his jokes too seriously. He also spoke about introducing Vice President Joe Biden, who gave the Jimmy V Perseverance Award to reporter Craig Sager, who is fighting cancer. Cena said it was “personally satisfying” and that it spoke about Sager and what the ESPYs mean.
