John Cena has been off of WWE TV since his SummerSlam loss to AJ Styles. Dave Meltzer noted on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that Cena is scheduled to be back for the October 9th WWE No Mercy PPV. A Cena vs. Styles rematch was originally set for that show, but that may have changed since Styles has won the WWE Title.
During his Q&A at the Salt Lake Comic Con last week, Cena mentioned that there was symbolism in leaving his wristbands in the ring at Summerslam. He also said that that we’ll have to wait and find out what it meant over the next few weeks, again teasing his return.
Cena is scheduled to take time off in mid-to late October to film season two of American Grit for Fox. If his schedule is similar to last year, he will likely miss the remainder of 2016.
