As previously mentioned, WWE has big plans for Baron Corbin. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the current plan is for Corbin to be a top heel on SmackDown later this year and likely feud with Randy Orton for the WWE Championship.
The Jinder Mahal push is just to hold things off for now and also because SmackDown is extremely weak on the heel side, with really only Kevin Owens as a top heel right now. Right after Owens you drop down to Corbin and Dolph Ziggler, with Rusev currently out with an injury.
WWE is also rumored to be looking into ways to change up his character and are planning on changing his entrance music.
