Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins has agreed in principle to purchase the National Wrestling Alliance, according to PWInsider. “The deal in place would see Corgan purchase the name, rights, trademarks to the NWA as well as the rights and possession of the NWA championship belt.”
The NWA was previously a governing body, allowing promotions to join, but in 2012, switched to licensing the NWA name for a fee, which led a lot of promotions to cut ties with NWA. No word on what exactly this means for the promotions currently licensing the NWA name or what exactly Corgan has planned in for the NWA in general.
Corgan tried to buy TNA last year, but that obviously did not work out and lead to both sides ending up in court. Anthem Entertainment eventually purchased TNA. Corgan also reportedly was interested in buying ECW in its later years.
