Fox News held a recent interview with John Cena as part of the promotion for his upcoming new movie The Wall. In regards to wrestling, Cena discussed his thoughts on the mixed tag match at Wrestlemania 33 and retirement plans.
On the topic of Wrestlemania 33, Cena stated he felt the most worried when it came to his proposal because he wasn’t entirely sure how Nikki Bella and the crowd would react. Ended up being very happy at the positive reception from the crowd which made the moment become even more special for him.
That was the most nervous I have ever been in my entire life and not only was I worried about her response but I was worried about the reaction of the 75,000 people of the Camping World Stadium. I didn’t know that they would react in such a positive way, and I’m forever indebted to our fans for being able to allow me to celebrate the greatest moment of my life.
He did hint about not being surprised had the crowd booed the moment based on his history but it was a risk he was willing to take.
If you watch WWE programming, sometimes they like me, sometimes they don’t. Our audience has an interesting way of letting you know how they feel. When you are genuine, you take a genuine risk.
On the topic of retiring from wrestling, Cena stated he doesn’t feel it will happen any time soon. He would rather want the WWE to tell him he’s no longer needed than have himself decide on when to call it a career.
As far as the performance level it’s definitely a business for the young and I am on the older side of young but I don’t think I’ll ever not be involved with the WWE. They will have to tell me that they no longer need my services because it is my home.
