WWE reportedly banned beach balls and all inflatable items at the Barclays Center last night for SmackDown, according to PWInsider. WWE specifically told security staff to not let them in the building and to confiscate them if found in the crowd. They are obviously easy enough to sneak in though, and several beach balls still did make it in the building and were bounced around during SmackDown before being confiscated by security. Security has seemingly always tried to confiscate beach balls though, so I’m not sure if WWE’s “ban” is necessarily anything new. Maybe security was told to be more diligent with all the beach balls lately.
John Cena seemed to encourage the beach balls in the crowd after Raw went off the air on Monday, saying that he loved to see people have fun, etc. Some of the wrestlers in matches where fans were completely distracted by the beach balls probably felt differently though.
At SummerSlam, Cesaro ran into the crowd to grab a beach ball and tear it up. It was a funny moment, but some people are afraid that it might cause a bigger problem in the future, making beach balls a constant “thing” at WWE shows.
