GFW had been in negotiations to bring in Rey Mysterio Jr., but those talks have fallen through and now appear to be “dead,” according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
The original plan was to have Alberto El Patron appear at AAA Triplemania to set up a feud with Jeff Jarrett, where Alberto would blame Jarrett for being suspended. This would have set up a match between Alberto and Jarrett at the Bound for Glory PPV. There would then be a swerve where Jarrett brought in Rey Mysterio Jr. to wrestle Alberto instead.
However, things went wrong with pretty much all three guys involved. Alberto apparently has “issues” with AAA, which were not resolved in time, so he didn’t appear at Triplemania. Negotiations with Rey Mysterio Jr. also fell through and the match was changed to just be Jarrett vs. Alberto, but Jarrett has now been forced to take an “indefinite leave of absence.”
Alberto El Patron said yesterday that he still expects to be back in GFW in November.
