The idea to replace Roman Reigns at TLC with Kurt Angle was first proposed Thursday by Vince McMahon after WWE determined that Reigns wouldn’t be able to compete, according to PWInsider.
Kurt Angle was given a physical on Friday to make sure that he was medically cleared to wrestle. Once he was cleared, WWE made the announcement minutes later on Friday.
Angle isn’t expected to wrestle regularly, but he almost certainly will wrestle again in the future. Even before TLC, the plan was always to have him eventually return to the ring for a special match here and there.
WWE posted a backstage video of Kurt Angle before his TLC match, with him giving his thoughts on his return to the ring.
