As reported earlier today, Triple H revealed that the WarGames match at this Saturday’s NXT Takeover: WarGames event will not have a roof due to WWE wanting tweaks done to the match.
In an update to this situation, Thursday’s Wrestling Observer Live show reported that the main reason is due to Vince McMahon throwing a fit during the booking process for this event. Bryan Alvarez stated this was a big topic during a recent writers meeting with Vince demanding the match not have a roof and Triple H pushing to keep the roof due to WarGames traditions. In the end, Alvarez stated that Triple H caved into Vince’s demands resulting in another change being made to the traditional NWA and WCW style of a WarGames match, in addition to the other small rule changes.
From Wrestling Observer Live:
“Vince didn’t want a roof. He was adamant about it. Like this was a big topic of conversation in a writers meeting… was a roof on this stupid cage. Every WarGames has had a roof and obviously, Triple H wanted a roof on the cage and Vince said ‘I don’t want a roof’ and Hunter said ‘I want one’ and they went back and forth. For those of you wondering who’s in charge, still to this day everywhere, it’s Vince McMahon. There’s no roof on this cage. So, if you are up in arms about it, that’s the story behind the roof on the cage.”
