Daniel Bryan is back in WWE as a “regular,” according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Meltzer speculated that Bryan will have a schedule similar to Randy Orton’s, where he works all the big shows, but does not work a full house show schedule, though he will probably still work many house shows.
Part of Bryan’s return agreement with WWE is that after every match, he will go to WWE doctors backstage to get a neuropsychological evaluation and impact testing done, according to Meltzer. This will reportedly happen until WWE is comfortable that he’s OK.
Bryan’s contract expires in September, but as of now, if everything goes well, he’s expected to re-sign with WWE. It was previously very likely that he was going to leave after his contract expired in order to wrestle elsewhere if WWE didn’t clear him.
After being forced to retire by 2015, Bryan reportedly asked to be released, but WWE refused and even froze his contract so that if he wasn’t making the appearances that WWE wanted, his contract would freeze and would technically never expire. Bryan, feeling trapped, even contemplated trying to get fired, but even if he did that, it “probably wouldn’t have worked,” according to Dave Meltzer.
