As noted before, WWE announced during this year’s WWE Hall of Fame ceremony that a new Mae Young Classic tournament will be held later in the year. In regards to potential competitors, Toni Storm was rumored to have recently signed a contract with the WWE as part of their recent aggressive efforts for their United Kingdom plans.
In an update to this situation, the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Newsletter that the WWE is currently targeting the dates of August 7th and August 8th for the tapings of this year’s Mae Young Classic tournament. Similar to last year’s tournament, the company is also currently planning to hold the tournament at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida.
In regards to Toni Storm’s WWE status, Meltzer reported her rumored new deal with the company is only as a WWE United Kingdom contract and not as a WWE NXT contract. The same goes for all other talent in the U.K. who have recently signed contracts with the company. Storm’s status for the upcoming Mae Young Classic is currently unknown at the moment.
