WWE announced today that they have released Big Cass.
A statement on WWE.com just says, “WWE has come to terms on the release of William Morrissey (Big Cass).” Interestingly, he was not “wished well in his future endeavors.”
Cass wrestled at a house show last night, losing to Daniel Bryan. His last “televised” appearance was at the Money in the Bank PPV, where he also lost to Bryan. No word yet on if anything specific happened to cause the abrupt release.
Last month, it was rumored that there was heat on Cass for reportedly going off-script in a segment on SmackDown where he brought out a little person dressed like Daniel Bryan. Cass reportedly pitched an idea where he would brutally beat down the little person, but was shot down by Vince McMahon himself, who told him to go with the original plan of just giving him a big boot. Cass allegedly ignored this and decided to still give him the extra beat down after the big boot. At the time, it was reported by Pro Wrestling Sheet that backstage officials were “very unhappy” and it landed Cass in “hot water.” Cass would go on to lose to Bryan in two PPV matches in a row.
