Lucha Underground has settled lawsuits that had been brought against them by five wrestlers and those wrestlers have been given their immediate releases, according to Lucha Central.
Joey Ryan, El Hijo del Fantasma, Texano Jr., Ivelisse and Kobra Moon filed lawsuits against El Rey Network and Baba-G Productions, the TV network and production company for Lucha Underground. The lawsuits alleged that the company violated California labor laws and illegally restricted them from taking other work, potentially costing them hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Several Lucha Underground wrestlers were locked into terrible deals, with some trapped for seven seasons, despite the show taking several months between each season and there being no guarantee that a fifth season is even going to happen.
The above wrestlers are now free to sign with whomever they want. The most likely next stop for Joey Ryan would be AEW, while WWE has expressed interest in El Hijo del Fantasma.
The attorney who represented the wrestlers, Andre Verdun, had this to say:
“I’m honored to say that we received 100% of the relief that we were suing to obtain and four young talented wrestlers are no longer bound by an unfair contract that prohibits them from taking full advantage of their talents at the prime of their career. I wish them all the best of luck.”
