WWE reportedly has recently changed the terms of their standard developmental NXT contracts in order to lock in new talent for more years in the company, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s issue that WWE has been recently offering new NXT contracts for five years in length instead of the previous standard of three years. It was also reported that this will be the new standard for the company’s developmental contracts going forward.
It is currently not known when WWE first started to offer these new longer NXT contracts but it is part of their on-going strategy to lock up more marketable talent for a longer period of time. It was reported that WWE’s ability to offer more guaranteed money for their contracts will likely offset any potential concerns from talent who would have been more comfortable with the previous shorter contracts.
