Mr. Anderson became the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion at TNA Genesis, minutes after winning a No. 1 Contender’s Match against Matt Morgan.
Eric Bischoff informed Anderson following his victory over Morgan that he would have to immediately use his title shot against Jeff Hardy. The nine minute match, which featured interference from Bischoff, Matt Hardy, Rob Van Dam, Mick Foley and Ric Flair at various points, concluded with Anderson reversing Hardy’s Twist of Hate attempt and hitting him with The Mic Check for the pinfall victory.
Earlier in the show, Beer Money, Inc. captured the TNA Tag Team Championship from The Motor City Machineguns while Abyss won the TNA Television Championship from Douglas Williams. Abyss substituted for AJ Styles in the match. Mike Tenay said over commentary that Styles is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks due to a leg injury. Styles nonetheless appeared at the event as he limped ringside to hit Williams with the TNA Television belt, which opened the opportunity for Abyss to use the Black Hole Slam and gain victory.
The pay-per-view opened with Kazarian defeating Jay Lethal to become the new TNA X Division Champion.
